When will the job be finished and ready for occupation ? What is the defect period to get the builder back ? You have the protection of department of fair trading to ensure the works are completed to the Australian standards and the builders home owner's warranty insurance in the event the builder did not make good the defects.

Generally, you will have 3 months to point out the minor defects for the builder to come back to repair and the home owners builders warranty insurance covers new construction for 7 years, while the appliances such as ovens and cook tops etc. generally have a 2 new year warranty from the supplier.

What will the quality of finishes be like ? ask to see samples of the products to be used.

Buying off plan can work well for some as it allows you to find a property in a position you want, prior to selling your own home, which will allow you to prepare your home for sale and do it in a time frame to fit in with the expected completion date of your new purchase.
